Enneagram Type 1 – What Can We Learn?
The Enneagram is a complex system that can guide our efforts to change the particular and repetitive aspects of how we think, feel, and act (patterns) that limit us and get in the way of achieving the results we want. While we all can identify with all of the types in one way or another, we tend to fixate or see and act in the world from one specific type.
This is a very basic guide to Enneagram Type 1. Type 1 represents that part in all of us that strives to do the right thing. Regardless of our type, Type 1 teaches us how to discover the wisdom of the journey from anger to the serenity that they know so well.
Center of Intelligence: Body
Focus of Attention: Noticing errors. Feel the need to rely on rules and create systems.
Patterns of:
Behavior: Rigid presentation and behavior. Typically, they follow rules, are ethical, responsible, and reliable.
Feeling: As Ones believe in being good, they try to repress anger, which leaks out as irritation and resentment.
Thinking: Ones can appear as Head Types. In their effort to perfect themselves, they can overthink decisions and even procrastinate, feeling they still have to work on themselves more before they can act.
Passion —Anger: body types deal with the passion of anger. Enneagram Type 1 has the tendency to repress anger. Anger is an emotion that can fuel action toward change. Type 1 has difficulty letting go and being able to rest. There’s always something to be done! The world is definitely not perfect!
Path to Integration: Trying to repress anger is not healthy and does not really fix anger. The path to integration for Type 1 is to recognize that imperfection is part of life and cultivate the serenity to accept what they perceive as errors and notice the magnificence and completeness of things just the way they are.
